Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

About Neonatalogy

The birth of a baby is a joyous time for families but sometimes, complications arise during pregnancy or birth that result in moderately-ill to critically-ill newborns. Neonatology is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on the health of babies, beginning before birth and extending into infancy.

For families facing the frightening uncertainty of birth complications, this department is  dedicated to providing the finest care for those confronted with challenging medical realities.

Premature births, congenital diseases, and other potentially serious health concerns are among the reasons why a fully staffed neonatal intensive care unit is so vital to the health of families in the community.

Caring for Fragile Lives

Specializing in the care of critically ill children, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a facility for Perinatal Intensive Care.

The NICU is staffed by health care professionals who specialize in caring for infants with medical complications. The dedicated team of neonatologists, neonatal ICU nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory and occupational therapists, dieticians, and other staff members are all experienced in caring for an ill infant’s special needs.

A Whole Health Approach

The scope of care doesn’t end with a newborn’s physical well-being. Hospital chaplains and social workers are available to provide spiritual and emotional support as well.

Additionally, special volunteers are specially trained to be with sick newborns providing the warmth of the human touch during those times when parents can’t be with their little ones because of the many demands of work or the daily needs of other children in the family.
